Because we spend so much of our time working, and to a certain extent define ourselves by what we do, our career significantly impacts our experience of life as a whole.
A fulfilling career in which you’re regularly using our strengths will give you enjoyment, growth, a sense of meaning and contribution, as well as connection with others.
All are vital for our wellbeing and overall life satisfaction. We’re also more likely to reach a greater level of success in a career that suits us.
Having made many changes myself in the search for a fulfilling career, I’m living proof that anyone can create a career that will make all aspects of their life happier and more satisfying. Click here to find out more about the benefits of a strengths-based approach.
So you’re just starting out on your career and – if you’re anything like I was – you’re probably thinking something like:
“How on earth do I decide what I want to do with my life – it’s all too big and too hard, and there are just sooooooo many options!!”
I’m sure you want answers – you want to know the ‘right’ thing to do, the ‘right’ career to get into. However the truth is that crafting a career that fits takes time, focus and planning. It takes really getting to know yourself – your natural strengths, what’s important to you, what you stand for and what you want to achieve in life. It’s about thinking big and also considering the small details.
Unless you’re one of the rare few who have a strong ‘calling’ early on, you’re likely to become like the majority of people who go off to work every day either feeling neutral towards it, negative about it or that they’re in stuck ‘career hell’.
Unless you take the time now to identify a career that really suits you.
Why waste years of your precious life doing work that you don’t fully enjoy? Why spend money gaining ill-fitting qualifications and skills that you don’t even want or need, when there is a whole world of opportunity and options out there that will suit you down to the ground?
It all starts with you getting to know and understand yourself – that’s what I’m here to assist you with, and it’s my career coaching point of difference.
According to a recent Gallup public opinion poll only 13% of the world’s 1.3 billion full-time employees are engaged in their work.
…Which means there’s a whole lot of disengaged, dissatisfied, unproductive workers out there – and perhaps you’re one of them. Maybe it’s time to take stock and ask some questions of your career – like:
Is this career still working for me?
Is it time to transition to something more meaningful and satisfying?
Maybe you’re contemplating going back to paid work after taking time out to look after your children… or you’re facing a redundancy or restructuring and find yourself considering a career change.
When you’re stuck in a career that no longer fits – or never did – it can have a negative impact on other areas of your life. I know, because I’ve been there myself. I also know how daunting it can seem to make career change.
I’ll work with you to design a structured career transition plan, which will allow you to manage the process in a way that works best for you.
We’ll explore where you might want to go by assisting you to understand yourself on a deeper level. We’ll look at what you’ve done so far, your natural strengths, your interests, what’s most important to you, your transferable skills and a whole lot more – all of which will enable you to make more informed choices moving forward.
Are you feeling bored or underutilised in your current role? Maybe you want to take the next step in your career but you’re not sure what that is or whether you’ve got what it takes to succeed?
Are you concerned that all you do is work and that your life is out of balance?
Or maybe you’re suffering a great deal of work-related stress and anxiety.
I can assist you to:
- Articulate personal and professional development goals
- Increase your awareness of your natural strengths and transferable skills
- Enhance your wellbeing
- Bring more balance and a greater sense of fulfillment to your life
- Increase your confidence to make the next move in your career
- Develop your leadership and emotional intelligence
By taking stock across your life as a whole, we can create a plan to transform your career and other aspects of your life leading to greater levels of personal and professional achievement, satisfaction and peace of mind.
